Limitations and alternatives
Despite our best efforts to ensure accessibility of the Region 14 ESC website, there may be some limitations. Below is a description of known limitations and potential solutions. Please contact us if you observe an issue not listed below.
Known limitations for Region 14 ESC Website:
1. Third-Party Embedded Content
-
Issue: Some embedded content from third-party platforms (such as registration systems, payment processors, or social media widgets) may not fully meet WCAG 2.2 AA standards.
-
Why it occurs: These elements are controlled by external vendors whose accessibility practices we cannot directly modify.
- What we’re doing: We actively evaluate accessibility when selecting third-party tools and regularly communicate accessibility requirements to our vendors. We are working to replace or supplement less accessible tools where alternatives exist.
- What to do: If you encounter barriers with embedded content, please contact us. We can provide alternative ways to access the same functionality, such as direct registration assistance or alternative payment methods.
2. Legacy PDF Documents
-
Issue: Some older PDF documents in our resource library may not be fully accessible with screen readers or other assistive technologies.
-
Why it occurs: These documents were created before our current accessibility standards were implemented.
- What we’re doing: We are systematically reviewing and remediating our document library, prioritizing frequently accessed resources and new publications. All new documents are created with accessibility requirements from the start.
-
What to do: If you need an accessible version of a specific document, contact us and we will prioritize creating an accessible version or provide the content in an alternative format.
3. User-Generated Content
-
Issue: Content submitted by members, presenters, or community contributors (such as presentation slides, handouts, or forum posts) may not always meet accessibility standards.
-
Why it occurs: Individual contributors may not be aware of accessibility requirements or have the training to create fully accessible materials.
-
What we’re doing: We provide accessibility guidelines and resources to all contributors and actively encourage accessible content creation. We review submitted materials when possible and provide feedback to help contributors improve accessibility.
-
What to do: If you encounter inaccessible user-generated content, please let us know. We will work with the content creator to improve accessibility or provide you with an alternative accessible version.
4. Archived Event Recordings
-
Issue: Some older recorded webinars and workshop sessions may lack captions or transcripts.
-
Why it occurs: These recordings were created before our current captioning requirements were established.
-
What we’re doing: We are working to retroactively add captions to our most valuable and frequently accessed archived content. All new recordings include captions from the point of creation.
-
What to do: If you need captions or a transcript for a specific recording, contact us and we will prioritize adding them or provide a written summary of the content.
